The Most Left-Wing Oscars Ever

I'm watching the Oscars tonight as I write this, and am struck by how left-wing they've become. I myself am pretty left-wing, so this is no problem to me. Ellen Degeneres, an out lesbian is the host. Ellen pointed out that if it weren't for blacks, gays and Jews there would be no Oscars -- and probably nobody named Oscar.

Not only was Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth a nominated movie, but Gore himself was a presenter; Leonardo DiCaprio, his copresenter, egged Gore on to announce his 2008 candidacy. (Gore did not comply).

To go along with all the leftitude, Melissa Etheridge, another out lesbian, sang a theme song from Inconvenient Truth. Various data from the movie (about CO2 levels and such) were shown on the backdrop as she sang. At the close of her song it was announced that this is the first "Green" Oscar ceremony ever. Ellen Degeneres said she would recycle some old jokes to be ecological:

"What about that Ginger in Gilligan's Island? Can you believe how many clothes she brought for a 3 hour tour?"

This Oscar ceremony was also the most multiethnic, with more nominees of other races and nationalities. I was disappointed that Eddie Murphy didn't win for Dreamgirls. He was excellent in his role and the movie as a whole was shut out of other so many categories.

The show is still going as I write this. I'm rooting for Babel as best picture -- it's an outstanding panoramic movie about communication problems between humans. Of the 4 intertwining plots, the one about the deaf and emotionally starved Japanese girl was the most unusual, and the best.

As I sign off, Gwyneth Paltrow is giving an award for cinematography. Yet another lefty who moved to England and then talked trash about W Bush. I love the Oscars, and I really love this one. Many conservatives hate what has happened to the entertainment industry. To conservatives out there who don't like the Dixie Chicks winning Grammies, or Ellen recycling jokes -- here is what you must do. Become culturally aware and sensitive to the problems of other people. Different does not equate to bad. Understand that your religion is just that -- your religion. Realize that tax breaks and business profits are not the main objective in life. Gradually, you will decalcify; you'll become less of a Republican and more of a liberal. You'll agree with Hollywood -- and I hope that's not an inconvenient truth.

Just a few random quotes:
"Thanks to TV and for the convenience of TV, you can only be one of two kinds of human beings, either a liberal or a conservative."
-- Kurt Vonnegut (1922 - ), "Cold Turkey", In These Times, May 10, 2004

"The modern definition of 'racist' is someone who is winning an argument with a liberal."
-- Peter Brimelow, National Review (2/1/93)

A liberal is a person whose interests aren't at stake at the moment.
-- Willis Player
A liberal is a man who leaves the room when the fight begins.
-- Heywood Broun (1888 - 1939)
A liberal is someone who feels a great debt to his fellow man, which debt he proposes to pay off with your money.
-- G. Gordon Liddy

And my personal favourite:
To be conservative at 20 is heartless and to be a liberal at 60 is plain idiocy.
-- Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965)

Thanks for your report on Oscar. I decided not to watch the Academy Awards after last year's tune, "It's Hard to be a Pimp Out Here" took the Oscar for best song. I knew at that moment that it was not I who had lost interest in the Oscars, but the Oscars had lost interest in me. I bid them a sad farewell.

Proudly, I saw none of the films that had been nominated this year - nor have I heard of many of the people nominated.

Good films are rare. We are a society who has become so dumbed down that we now award people for mediocrity.

Besides, the Academy Awards have become known for their political rants more than honoring the accomplishments of filmmakers.

They give liberals the opportunity to spout off inane platitudes and comments to a captive audience without having to be held accountable for their remarks. I wouldn't expect anything any less from those folks because most don't have the grey matter or fortitude to debate much of what they spew. They throw bombs and run.

Judging from the reviews of the program, I spent my time well - reading a book and glancing up now and then at an old Harry Potter film.

As far as the Oscar ceremony being the most left-wing presentation so far - tell me something I don't already know.

If you hear of some Republican rioting; conservatives shouting down a liberal speaker; prominent conservatives vowing to move to another country if a liberal is elected - now, that would be something to write about!

I love movies. I hate the Oscars.
actually i don't like any of the awards shows. I really don't need to sit for 3+ hours watching the lot of self congratulatory twits have a massive circle jerk. we need some containment on the award shows: SAG Awards, golden globe, people's choice , emmy's, daytim emmy's, CMA, grammy's, MTV, etc... stop it already . BTW, is Clint Eastwood a liberal? cause he's made some pretty good movies.

While busy high-fiving one another on knocking down another strawman, liberals might consider that perhaps - just perhaps - conservatives are animated by the same values and concerns that liberals are: concern for the individual, the sanctity of life, love of country and creation of a sustainable world. Liberals and conservatives disagree on the best methods or means to achieve these goals, but we are united by common goals and dreams. This demonization of one another's positions is what serves to further polarize and calcify, even if it makes for a good laugh.

And that's the truth, convenient or not.

You bunch of damn conservatives! I can't believe it.

There are actually a few good things buried in those remarks. The only one I'll take exception to here is 'Liberals running from a fight'. As I recall, John Kerry and Jim Murtha served in 'Nam. Bush and Cheney found ways to get out.
